Hanging Out Your Consulting Shingle
For many career women interested in working part-time, consulting is an attractive option. The models can vary greatly. Some women consult part time with their former employer, some take long term contracts with other firms, and some freelance on various short term projects. Whatever the model, it seems that some employers are more open to flexible and part time schedules for contractors than they are for their employees today. And many women are finding that consulting offers them a better combination of earning potential, challenging work and flexibility than their former employers could offer.

If you are considering starting your own consulting practice you'll want to read Robbie Baxter's article, "Should I Stay or Should I Go Independent?".  Robbie, the founder of Peninsula Strategies, a highly successful online strategy consultancy, offers plenty of practical advice and encouragement for other women considering consulting as a flexible career path.
